Local Area/Facilities

Torosay Fort WilliamFort William Town Centre is literally only 5 minutes walk away. There are number of cafes, pubs and restaurants to go to in Fort William and the surrounding areas. We recommend that you visit the various Fort William websites to assist you in your deliberations.

We list below some of the better ones that we have been to:

Places to Eat

  • The Inverlochy Castle Hotel - This is simply superb! It is situated about a mile and a half outside Fort William to Spean Bridge. It is particularly ideal for that special occasion. The cuisine is first class.
  • The Crannog Fish Restaurant - A specialist seafood restaurant which is situated right on the banks of Loch Linnhe (see website). The storms of January 2005 have meant a temporary relocation whilst immediate works are carried out.
  • No 4 Restaurant - Just off the Fort William High Street tucked in a corner in the town square. Recommended for dinner but excellent for lunches and child friendly (see website).
  • The Highland Star Chinese Restaurant - Situated in the High Street in Fort William, and very child friendly.
  • The Grand Hotel - Situated on the High Street in Fort William - a favourite of ours. Dine either in the bar or the restaurant. An excellent menu and very reasonably priced. The staff there are particularly good with children (see website).
  • The West End Hotel - Situated at the southern end of Fort William High Street and with beautiful views over Loch Linnhe.

Restaurants slightly further afield (no more than 10 minutes by car)

  • Within easy driving distance is the Ben Nevis Inn (at the foot of Ben Nevis) at Achintee. This is about a ten minute drive from Torosay. It is a lovely place to go on a fine day where you can sample some spectacular views. A very child friendly environment and the pub that the Ben Nevis climbers tend to use most.
  • The Moorings at Banavie (about ten minutes drive from Torosay) is set close to Neptune's staircase on the road out to Glenfinnan.
  • The Café Beag in Glen Nevis. This is situated about 7 or 8 minutes drive from Torosay. It is a family run café serving up snacks and home made cakes and soups.

Slightly further afield (no more than 25 minutes by car)

  • It is well worth visiting the Ballachulish Visitors Centre. It has a nice café and is situated about 2 miles past the Ballachulish bridge, about 25 minutes drive from Torosay.
  • The Glenfinnan House Hotel in Glenfinnan is about 15 miles from Torosay and about a 25 minute drive. The drive itself is a spectacular one taking you to Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan Monument. There are some awesome views here. Some of the shots for Harry Potter were filmed here. Also in Glenfinnan, try the visitors centre at the National Trust building. Again the homemade cakes and scones are wonderful.
  • The Onich Hotel situated in Onich - about 10 miles from Torosay. This is a hotel and restaurant which does an excellent range of reasonably priced cuisine (see website).
