Other Activities
There is also fishing, canoeing, skiing, walking, cycling, riding, boating and rock climbing available.
There are a number of golf courses to enjoy, some local and some a bit further afield:
- Fort William Golf Course - Just 5 minutes drive from Torosay and situated right at the foot of Ben Nevis. Some wonderful views and scenery await you, and you will appreciate particularly the four challenging par 3 holes that await, two of which are surrounded by a highland burn.
- Traigh Golf Course in Arisaigh (near Mallaig) - A challenging 9 hole seaside course amid some of the most beautiful scenery in the west highlands. There are spectacular views to the Islands of Eigg, Rhum and the Cuillins of Skye. It has been described as "probably the most beautifully sited 9 hole golf course in the world".
- There are also 9 hole golf courses to be found at Spean Bridge (about 8 miles away) and Ballachulish (about 10 miles away). The Ballachulish course (known as the Dragons Tooth) opened in 2003.
- Further afield there are beautiful golf courses at Oban, Kingussie, Newtonmore, Loch Ness, Fort Augustus and Boat of Garten.
There is an abundance of wildlife to be found in the highlands. See particularly the buzzards, deer, highland cows, not to mention the salmon and trout.
These are only our suggestions of places that we have visited and enjoyed. Part of the fun of the Highlands is that there are vast stretches of unspoilt scenery that are waiting to be explored and enjoyed. In a nutshell Scotland simply does not have the population that other parts of the UK have - as a result tranquillity is ensured. To us the Highlands is a place "once visited, never forgotten".
